RiYL: Laika, Tricky, Portishead, My Bloody Valentine
Bowery Electric is a raver's dream come true, sporting a bevy of head-nodding beats that complement some of the most hallucinogenic guitar tones since My Bloody Valentine made us cry with 1991's landmark Loveless album.

Beat is the New York City band's second record, and makes for a fine accompaniment to the psychedelic journey of your choice. Multi-instrumentalists Lawrence Chandler and Martha Schwendener make fine use of sampled drums, confounding loops, droning synths and the type of hushed vocals normally reserved for whispering into a lover's ear.

"Fear Of Flying'' and album opener "Beat'' do the job nicely, inviting listeners to close their eyes and dive into a pool of fuzzed, bass-driven bliss. Bowery Electric is a forward-thinking rock band not afraid to incorporate the kind of dance elements not often found in such music, and Beat hones in on an uncommonly mind-altering vibe.
