RiYL: Pavement, The Cars, The Cure
With sing-songy choruses, spacey keyboards, swirling effects and simple, guitar-driven numbers, Chicago's Pulsars come off sounding something like Pavement or the Cure by way of the Cars.

The brotherly duo of Harry and Dave Trumfio blends and serves this mixture with impressive results on their self-titled debut, which follows the earlier release of the Submission To The Master EP on Almo Sounds/Geffen. The full-length includes a few tracks from the EP, the best being the cathartic "Submission Song" and sad closer "Das Lifeboat," enhanced by trumpet soloing from legendary jazz ace Herb Alpert (on whose Almo Sounds imprint this disc was issued).

Although a lot of the noodling here serves as nothing more than filler, some of this music is bound to get stuck in your head for days.
