Remorse -- an extreme form of regret, that self-administered ass-kicking which follows the commission of some amazingly stupid action. Like volunteering to review a double-disc career retrospective package. It doesn't matter if it's a favorite artist. It's still just a collection of stuff you already know. It offers no new challenges, poses no new questions.

What can one really say? That this collection offers up Prince at his finest? That the best track in the set is a live version of " Nothing Compares 2 U " that renders Sinead O'Connor irrelevant? That the inclusion of "Cream" allows one to forgive him the Batman project? That "Purple Rain" still sounds like one of the best songs in rock's canon? That it makes you want to own all of his albums and follow him around the country for 25 years?

Well, maybe so. But really, all that still boils down to saying, "Prince RULES, baby!!!" I suppose that will have to be enough.
