The Radio Goodnight
Caulfield, 2000
RiYL: Sunny Day Real Estate, Jimmy Eat World, Promise Ring
Although it borrows heavily from the sharp instrumental dynamic of Jimmy Eat World and Sunny Day Real Estate (lead singer Jeff Hanson is a dead vocal ringer for SDRE's high-pitched wailer Jeremy Enigk), m.i.j.'s debut album The Radio Goodnight still makes for enjoyable listening.

There's no orchestra or synths necessary here -- except for the jangly closer "Again Today" and the acoustic "Sometimes In Sleep," this is emo-rock in all caps, right down to the sentence fragment song titles ("Then The Last Time Was," "Do You Miss") and cathartic trio interplay.

Highlights include the title track, the lunging, Promise Ring-y "West," and the clenched-fist "Your Stories." The Radio Goodnight is the product of its' creators obvious influences, but will likely satisfy fans of this type of heart-on-sleeve rock.
