The Letter E
EP
Tiger Style, 2000
RiYL: Rex, Karate, Tortoise
Fronted by guitarists Curtis Harvey (Rex) and Sean Meadows (June of 44), the Letter E proves itself an ear-worthy act with its self-titled debut, a four-song EP. The band builds its songs with repetition and gentle chord progressions that lull the listener into a state of comfort. Though the first track, "On the Corner," has a distinctly Karate flavor to it, most of the album is performed in the tradition of bands such as Directions in Music or Tortoise.

In the liner notes, the members reveal that the album is a tribute to a burned-down Brooklyn building, in which the members used to practice. With a slightly sentimental nature, as well as a few inspired moments of beauty, the EP sounds like a suitable sign of gratitude.
