I Get Wet
Island, 2002
RiYL: AC/DC, Van Halen, Kid Rock |
On I Get Wet, Andrew W.K. makes one thing clear -- he wants to party. With titles like “Party Hard,” “Party Till You Puke” and “It’s Time to Party,” I Get Wet explodes with the energy and machismo of wrestlemania America and the stupidity of a drunken frat party.
Awash with torrents of synthed-out keyboards and Van Halen-like guitar cranked up to 11, I Get Wet is an obliterating 36-minute block of sound. With each successive track, W.K. piles on more and more of the same deafening '80s dance metal (minus the Aqua Net), and before long the party kitsch becomes as indelible as a tattoo.
While it’s obvious I Get Wet’s all about fun, on the album’s more serious -- but no less riotous -- tracks, W.K. tackles issues like girls, love and disillusion. But with lyrics like “girls own love,” it’s clear there’s no wordsmithery here.
Listen to this album once, and you can write it off as one of the worst albums you’ve ever heard. Listen to it two or three times and it’s the first thing you wanna put on before you go out on Saturday night.
