Some records are just made to be played at a certain time of day. The latest full-length from American Analog Set, Know By Heart, sounds like it was crafted with morning listening sessions in mind. Throughout the album, the Austin-based five-piece uses guitars, vibraphone, keyboards and sparse drumming to craft quiet, poppy arrangements that, unlike on the band's previous efforts, virtually never break three-and-a-half minutes.

"Punk as Fuck" seems anything but as it combines simple keyboard and drum work with acoustic guitar harmonics and hushed vocals. And "Million Young" is a dance track for those who don't dance (a la Stereolab) with tin can keyboards and tambourine-infused percussion work laying a foundation for electric guitar hooks and understated harmonies. Never grating, never too loud, never boring, Know By Heart serves as a laid-back, indie pop soundtrack for a morning commute or Sunday morning hangover recovery session.
